My Life started out with a fascination for life and design; how design was manifested in everything and how the quality of life became more magical because of design. I loved how they inter connected with each other.
I enjoyed being a child and living on the farm where we were allowed to use our imaginations in our work and in our play.
Art and design seemed to be a natural for me as I went through Jr. High, High School, and 2 years of Commercial Art. Then I went to LDS Business College to begin a study of Interior Design. After a year there I found myself married and beginning a life with family. From then on my time was devoted to my family but I always found ways to enhance our lives using my creative abilities and fulfilling simple art dreams and desires.
Drawing has been very fulfilling for me. It seems as though something magical happens when my pencil glides over the paper. I love the feeling of creating textures, blending shades and making the image come alive.
Drawing has helped me to really “see” the world around me with more awareness. This awareness has helped me develop a personal style of fine detail and textures combined with subtle contrasts and delicate shading.
Eventually I felt compelled to do more in the art field so I went back to school and also entered several contests and art shows. I was rewarded with several jobs in the creative field and numerous awards and certificates.
The last 20 years I have delved more into the world of watercolors.
Watercolors, children and portraits seem to be what most artists shy away from because of their complexity. I find these subjects fascinating and very fulfilling.
I see watercolors and children as being very companionable. Both have a quality of light about them and carry an air of freedom and innocence. They are bright and happy with a touch of spontaneity that can be very refreshing . . . . when you think about it, they both can have a mind of their own.
I love being a mother of seven and a grandmother of twenty six, I have watched my children and grandchildren explore their world with innocence and imagination. I think of my watercolor paintings as being a watercolor sketch that captures the innocence and curiosity that seems to always surround a child.
Rather than a staged or formal portraiture, my style is an informal setting that captures the simple and honest fraction of a moment, when children are being just that . . . . children.
I have now expanded my abilities to include digital design, and have illustrated 3 Children's Books.
For the last 20 years I have taught art classes and workshops to teens and adults on drawing and watercolors. And I have also enjoyed working with the community doing commissioned artwork.
In 2006 I became the Chairman of the Sevier County Commissioners Art Show.
In 2012 I became the President and Organizer of the Central Utah A.R.T. Guild.
Today I am experiencing life in a new location and a new emphasis where, I love what I am doing. I am able to pursue my art indulgences and hope to share my gift with others.
